Originally when the group was drawn it included East Germany but following reunification on the 3rd October '91 they were scratched from the schedule and Germany competed as a unified team with the likes of Thomas Doll and Matthias Sammer added to the World Champions already star-studded squad.

The DFB had suffered a shock defeat in Cardiff earlier in the year and the way the fixtures had fallen meant they played two games after Wales had finished their campaign and required maximum points to qualify so the pressure was on. Defeat here and the Welsh were through in their place.

Berti Vogts' men delivered here though in a crucial fixture securing a 1-0 win thanks to a 16th minute Rudi Völler strike. Riedle played the full match as Völler's strike partner. The striker won 42 caps scoring 16 goals between 1988-94. This was the penultimate outing of possibly the greatest football shirt of all-time, it was last seen versus Luxembourg in the team's final group match which they won 4-0 to confirm their place at Euro '92 in Sweden. With the addition of match details for the Euro '92 qualifying campaign to further add to the majesty of the kit.
