AS Roma to end Kappa Kit deal

AS Roma to end Kappa Kit deal

In a statement on their official web page, Italian side AS Roma has announced their intention to end their current deal with Kappa.

The statement reads:

“In consideration of the serious defects found in the technical material and the line of clothing produced by BASIC ITALIA S.p.A. for the 2012/13 season, the A.S. Roma S.p.A. board of directors has decided to cancel the contract with the technical sponsor with immediate effect due to BASIC ITALIA's non-performance of contractual obligations. The board of directors reserve the right to pursue A.S. Roma's best interests through the appropriate channels. The A.S. Roma team will continue to wear the technical material with the Kappa brand until the end of the current season“

The deal with Kappa was set to run until 2016 and a spokesman from Kappa has announced their intention to take the matter to legal court.

A new kit provider has yet to be announced, but it is thought that the American owners of AS Roma, would be keen to strike a deal with an American company in order to break into the North American market.

I adore the look of Kappa's products but the quality seems to be very low. I remember when Swedish club Hammarby used Kappa a couple of years ago. The Hammarby players were so disappointed by the quality of the boots they were allowed to us other brands.
