5000 Ipswich Town 3 star shirts 07/08

This is the 2007-2009 Ipswich Town home shirt. Only the first 5,000 purchased will have the three stars.

The 3 star design was chosen in a kit vote by supporters and is a limited edition. The shirt worn in the Championship by Ipswich will not have any stars as this is against FA rules, which forbid stars from being worn on shirts in domestic competitions. Since Ipswich have not been in European competitions since this new tradition was adopted their shirts will be allowed to contain the stars.

Ipswich Town have signed a four-year deal for Mitre to supply the club with home and away kits, as well as training and bench wear until May 2011. The Britisg sports brand company will develop a new home shirt for the start of the 2007/8 season based upon a three star design that supporters chose in a vote last November. The club’s away shirts will continue to be supplied by Punch, their current supplier, until a new away shirt is developed by Mitre for the 2008/9 season. Ipswich Town, which owns the Punch brand, will also continue to use it for selected leisurewear products.

This deal marks the end of Mitre’s seven-year absence from football kit design and development. Mitre, established in 1817, has a strong footballing heritage having produced match balls for the Football League and high-end footwear and accessories. The company has also worked with a myriad of international and domestic teams including Cameroon, Burnley and Hibernian. Mitre is part of a conglomerate owned by the Pentland Group which is also made up by Speedo, Berghaus and Kickers brands.

Hopes for the future of this partnership are high, Andrew Goulborn, Ipswich Town's Sales & Marketing Director: "Mitre is renowned for the quality of its products and their experience in the design and manufacture of sports products is second to none. They've got a great team and we are very much looking forward to working with them over the next few years. I think that Ipswich Town fans will be impressed when they see the design and quality of the products that we plan to produce with Mitre".

Hard feelings are not to be had for the termination of their former contract though, as Mr. Goulborn would put it, "I would like to record the club's appreciation of the commitment and efforts of ASD, the Ipswich-based company who have worked with Ipswich Town over the last five years to design and manage the manufacturing of our Punch-branded kit. Whilst we're sorry to be ending our excellent partnership with them, we're excited about entering a new era with Mitre."

Brand Director for Mitre, Gary Hibbert is also pleased with the current situation, "We are delighted to be re-entering the pro-kit market, and particularly with a club of the stature and heritage of Ipswich Town. Like us they were founded more than a hundred years ago and have a long history that includes an FA Cup win, a UEFA Cup victory and a top five Premiership finish as well having been the proving ground for two England managers. We couldn't ask for a better partner. We are totally committed to providing Ipswich Town and their supporters with the very best designs and the highest quality products."

Mitre has specifically employed a new and experienced team to design the new kit and work on developing a stylish line of performance, training, and bench wear for the team, due for 2007-2008. Marketing teams are also working with the club on a range of initiatives that will add value to Ipswich Town's Community Trust and Academy schemes.
