Coventry City 08/09 Brown 125th anniversary shirt

Coventry City fans have been preparing to snap up the limited edition chocolate brown shirts that the team will wear on the final home match of the season against Watford at the Ricoh Arena.

The shirt will no doubt be a collector's item, and will go on pre-order on Sunday 28th December, on the day of the Sheffield Wednesday match, from the Britannia Tyres club shop at a cost of £38.99.

As there will only be 1,125 replica shirts made, the club wishes to make fans aware that the shirt will only be produced in adult sizes.

The club is sorry for any disappointment this may cause some of our younger fans, but the costs involved for Puma to produce even smaller numbers throughout a wider range of sizes would have meant the retail price of the shirt exceeding £40. Sizes will range from small adult to XXL, with a limited stock in each size.

The original brown kit was worn in 1978, and the retro version is a big seller in the club shop at the Ricoh Arena so now current kit manufacturers Puma are producing a modern version for City to wear against the Hornets on Friday, April 24 2009.brown coventry city 08 09 puma football shirt

Ben Turner modelled the shirt at Ryton last week, and it caused a definite stir, with the players looking forward to running out in an iconic Coventry colour next Spring.

Orders will be taken on a 'first come, first served basis' in each size, with just a small number being held for our concession at Asda in Walsgrave. More details for on-sale dates at Asda will be revealed in due course.

City’s commercial director Nathan Kosky explained:

“We were looking to do something special for the final home game of our 125th season and it was suggested that the players wear an iconic kit from the club’s history.

“And when people talk about iconic football strips, City’s brown jersey from the 1970s is one of the most talked about in English football.

“I have been asked whether the club would be releasing a brown kit since my very first day in the job, so I am sure fans will be eager to snap up their own shirt.”

The version on the right looks good, but the one on the left...oh deary me NO! It just doesn\'t work, Puma have obviously tried to shoe-horn some sky blue and it looks wrong, wrong, wrong.
