New Sheffield United 08/09 Le Coq Sportif kits

These are the new Sheffield United home and away kits made by Le Coq Sportif for the 2008/09 season. The players displayed the brand new kits at the game against Bristol City and the kits are now available pre-order in the online store.

James Beattie, Billy Sharp and co showed the home strip, whilst the under 18s squad entered the pitch at half-time wearing the smart all black away kit.

Sheffield United may be known for their red and white striped kits, but The Blades began playing in white shirts and blue shorts. They briefly flirted with narrow red stripes for the 1890-91 season, before returning to all white the following year.

The stripes returned in the 1892-93 season, with black shorts replacing the blue in 1904 The shirts remained largely unchanged until collars were first removed in 1955, replaced by V-necks until the 1966-67 season (when white socks were also used), and from here on the neck style varied hugely.

The 08/09 home strip was designed by season ticket holder Ben Frost, whilst the away shirt was chosen by the first-team playing squad. The away shirt will be available to buy in the Blades superstore from mid-June, while the home strip hits the shops in mid-July.

I\'m quite surprised at the home shirt design, because LCS usually make a number of unique designs of their own, but having a shirt that resembles the Adidas Aquila design from 2006 is unusual. It wouldn\'t surprise me if the shirt, like the said Adidas template, has a plain red \"UEFA-backed war on stripes\" back which will make it even worse.

The current season\'s shirt is far better in my opinion. As for the away it\'s alright but nothing special. I wouldn\'t say it was the worst Sheffield United kit ever though, that destinction goes to Hobott\'s 1979 effort which made the Blades look like a poor imitation of Ajax.

    What if...

Le Coq Sportif made referees\' kits. That away one on the top pic is the stuff of Rob Styles\'s wet dreams.

In fairness it looks more like a referee kit because the grey looks white on that one.

to be fair at least its going to be unique next year as stokes kit is identical but sponsor and blue instead of black .
plenty of rumours on the blades messageborads about the sponsor thought the deal had ran out with Capitol one but it was on the shirts when the players walked around the pitch .

Very unfair saying we have some of the worst kits i agree with some of them but not others this years is actually decent and i love the LIme green away kit

So what exactly is everyone finding so offensive about the new home shirt then? It looks very smart to me, good positioning of the red on the sleeve-line, slightly thicker red stripes, I mean compared to the last two - one with random black blobs where the sweat is, and the Premier league one with the random extra stripes between sleeve and collar, which looked every inch a lower division strip - this is very smart indeed.

    Oh my god..
Ok to allow fans in designing shirts..but LCS should refuse to put his logo on an Adidas fake shirt!

I think the home kit is very stylish. The away kit is black with meaningless splashes of grey, and has been done to death. BORING.

Ben Frost, well done. Sheffield United have had some real dogs for a home kit the last few seasons, and this is a major improvement. I don\'t think there\'s any need for the personal insults that have posted by those above.

How old is season ticket holder Ben Frost? 1? 2?

the red looks a much weaker shade, almost like its been painted on and i\'m surprised that LCS have allowed their logo to be camoflauged into the shirt so much.

The away kit is very nice, the players have good taste!

    No Capital One next season?

Correction to my statement. i take back what I said about Le Coq Sportif because I just read that a supporter designed it. What was he thinking? f*c*i*g w*n*e*.

Aye mate I was about to say the same exact thing. Le Coq is way better then that. Very disappointed in this home kit. Away is quality though. I like Le Coq but I do not understand why the copy off Adidas.
