Sunderland 2017-18 Adidas Home Kit

This is the new Sunderland 17/18 Home Kit by Adidas. The shirt features a woven club crest and engineered fabric that benefits from adidas CLIMACOOL performance technology.

The new home shirt for the upcoming season is rooted in Sunderland's history as it takes inspiration from the first ever red and white shirt worn by the club in the 1880s.

Rancid kit! A joke like the club & fans. Plenty of pink seats next season SMB?

This is an awful strip. The stripes are just too thin. Solid red back makes it even worse. Would have been better if its 2/3 in white and the rest a continuation of the front stripes. Don't see myslf getting this one.

The shirt is horrible why the solid red back? The stripes are to small last seasons shirt was 100% better. Yet more misery and disappointments for Sunderland fans.

Wow, this has got to be the worst Sunderland shirt I have ever witnessed. It looks like a pyjama top. Stick of rock, deckchair, table cloth in a cheap cafe. Relegation for the mackems in this woeful number. :Dlol:D:D:D:D:D

I agree with @ANON, that fans have a very clear idea of how their team should look - especially when it comes to stripes, and hoops. On this occasion, it is my team that I'm commenting on, and yes I would have preferred a more traditional width of stripe. As a former kit designer, there is plenty you can do on a strip, without having to completely ignore a teams identity. Teams like Real, United, Bayern, Ajax etc. do this with ease. That being said, iconic kits have only come to be, because somebody tried to do something new, and it probably coincided with some success, or exciting football e.g. 1988 Holland and 1990 West Germany. Unfortunately, for Sunderland right now, things are f*c*i*g awful, and this feels like another kick in the balls. I'm sure if we had an exciting team, and possibly even a manager! then the reaction might be a little different. For me, the kit only lasts one season, and they will likely follow it up with a traditional Sunderland jersey - so not such a big deal. Agree with all the comments about the back panel. There's no need for it, and it genuinely ruins the jersey. The part that bothers me most, is actually the black neck and cuffs. Historically, there was a clear difference between Sunderland, Southampton, Sheffield Utd, and Brentford. We normally have a red neckline, and occasionally white. I think we've had black maybe twice. It just doesn't like Sunderland. This season's going to be pretty rough, for a number of reasons, and I think the club could have done without this being part of the conversation.

Here we go again, Newcastle are supposed to be having stripes on back of next seasons shirts but sunderland have a horrid red back on these new shirts, if a team plays in stripes make all the shirts in strips, i'm sure easy to see type numbers could be introduced.

the stitching of the Adidas logo in the main image looks like a knock-off.

Brentford had a similar kit to this in the late 80s.

Difficult for teams with stripes, fans always have very firm ideas on the 'correct' width and position.

Seemingly a huge SAFC fan backlash on social media, hasn't gone down too well, although I really like it.
