adidas have released a commemorative 100th anniversary shirt for the Japanese Football Association (JFA).
The current manifestation of the Japan national football team began in 1921, in effect, by way of the formation of the JFA, and played its first match in 1930 wearing light blue to represent the Japanese islands’ surrounding sea - a look which was then retained as the Japanese held their own amongst the elite of world football at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
This retread from the German sportswear giant - made with Parley ocean plastics - honours this look, with its simple, gold-bordered flag chest crest, contrast, button-up white collar and cuffs, and the anachronistic adidas logo applied tonally.
