Liverpool have revealed their new 21/22 Third kit, inspired by the colours and the aesthetic of the Kop: one of the most iconic stands in football.

Over the years The Kop became the tapestry that told the story of Liverpool Football Club.

A community that made banners, flags, fanzines, and chants that travelled the world over, much to the envy of other clubs. It brought back stories and cultural influences that became staples on football terraces.

As the club embark on another European campaign, Nike has been guided by insights from the very fans that represent the Kop, to create a collection that celebrates not only the history and tradition of the club, but the future of fan culture, too.

The bold yellow jersey is representative of the club’s rich history in the colour. The red-and-yellow chequered trim on the collar draws on the passion of The Kop and the flags that fill the stands, while pinstripes highlight the tight bond between the club and its community.

On the nape of the neck, the 96-emblem encased by the eternal flames sits proudly in memory of the 96 children, women and men who lost their lives at Hillsborough. For the 2022-23 season, the 96 emblem will change to 97 in recognition of Andrew Devine, the 97th person unlawfully killed as a result of the Hillsborough disaster. Unfortunately, it was not possible to change the emblems for the 2021-22 campaign.

The new Liverpool FC Third kit that players will wear on the pitch as well as the replica jerseys for the fans are constructed with 100% recycled polyester fabric, which is made from recycled plastic bottles. This creates the kits that helps deliver peak performance with a lower impact on the environment.

Arrgh! Why those socks?

But that shirt is channelling more early 1980s goodness than a Big Trak carrying a Speccy in its trailer, with Manic Miner loaded and ready to go.

Oh Vienna!

The colour and the styling absolutely work together in a fantastic way. The retro look is a real attention grabber and it perfectly fits the club it is assigned to. A brilliant football kit.

This draws on the yellow shirt of the 80s with the Crown Paints logo and is a welcome change from the usual black garbage that gets turned out every year by teams. Well done to Nike.
