Iconic French Ligue 1 club Racing Club de Lens earlier sported a special “Sainte-Barbe” (patron saint of miners, whose feast day is 4th December) tribute shirt in their near-victory over Paris Saint-Germain.
Almost entirely in black and gold, referring to the mining of coal, or “black gold”, the design’s sublimated patterning refers to this also, with a light reference to the 115th anniversary of the “Sang et Or” (blood and gold, the first-choice colours of Lens).
The Puma logo and special crest are centrally placed, as has been the German manufacturer’s recent wont, and the sleeves have representations of Loos en Gohelle’s twin slag heaps - comprising a UNESCO heritage site - all on a shirt which was produced in France from recycled polyester and combined with black shorts and socks against PSG.
