New York City-based brand Sangalo have recently added to their stable, now distributing the shirts of three more clubs from undercelebrated championships of world football, as they continue their mission to increase the exposure of some of the planet’s inadequately sung club sides.
Joining Uganda’s Express FC, India’s Hyderabad FC and Bhutanese side Paro FC, Sangalo now also boast Home and Away shirts for Vietnam’s Hanoi FC and Zimbabwean big hitters Dynamos FC and Highlanders FC.
Hanoi FC are actually the reigning champions of Vietnam’s V.League 1, and their Jogarbola primary shirt, which combines purple and yellow and features a striking graphical pattern on the lower portion, has an array of colourful partner logos to satisfy anyone looking for a football-based example of authentic Vietnamese culture.
The change ticks virtually all of the above boxes too, this time with the stylings on a backdrop of white with purple.
Harare-based Dynamos FC, who last week featured in a just-for-fun crest-design challenge on our sister site, DesignFootball.com, have a very stylish commemorative badge on their blue Home shirt, celebrating their 60th birthday, and the design’s focal point is the timeless white striping running vertically down the centre of the release.
Produced by OTB Looks, as is the case with the first-choice version, the white-and-blue Away creeps into being a very novel twist on quarters, complete with solid raglan sleeves.
But perhaps most striking of all the newly announced items belong to Highlanders FC, who hail from Bulawayo and OTB Looks take their aesthetic cues here from the iconic King Lobengula. There’s a less-is-more quality to the Home shirt, which sees black and white stripes combined with simple neck and cuff styling, and while the change is barely that in practice, with the proportion of white increased and the black reduced - but not drastically - the animal-style patterning print to the central portion of the trunk and the sleeves makes for a monochrome masterpiece.
Sangalo are continuing to provide an alternative to the usual suspects many of us think of when it comes to successful football team shirts, and these new additions to their range give us high hopes for the future. Variety - in teams, designs and suppliers - is what we crave, and that’s certainly what Sangalo are delivering.
