Following on from the Sheridan Bird and Rick Banks nonprofit release, Football Type, comes the now long-awaited and ideally-titled Football Type 2.
The book, like its predecessor, celebrates typography in football, with a particular focus on the names and numbers which appear on some of the beautiful game’s most iconic kits.
Handily, the area Bird has vacated - the writing - has been amply filled by fellow sports journalist Denis Hurley, whose expertise on football kits is displayed on MuseumofJerseys.com, as well as his knowledge of football numbering giving us the fascinating SquadNumbers.com.
Rick Banks - from the award-winning Face 37 design studio - is again responsible for the beautiful presentation, alternating between photographs of shirt reverses in action and expert graphical representation - bliss for fans of football design. Add in Denis’s informative textual appreciation of the sights to behold - sure to have been a labour of love - and decades’ worth of a particular tranche of on-pitch beauty surely now has another essential coffee table companion.
