Celtic 2023-24 adidas ‘Picasso’ Home and Away Kits

Celtic 2023-24 adidas ‘Picasso’ Home and Away Kits

These are the 2023-24 season Celtic “Picasso” Home and Away shirts by adidas.

Marking the 20th anniversary of the Glasgow-based club’s iconic trip to the 2002-03 Uefa Cup Final in Seville, Andalusia - where the Celts debuted the 2003-04 season’s kit - the new releases are inspired by the work of the Andalusian artist Pablo Picasso.

Huge thanks go to DesignFootball.com member Corinth (@corinth_designs on Twitter and Instagram) for assistance and patience in putting this together. The convincing parts were all Corinth’s.

Taking cues specifically from the cubist’s Jeune fille devant un miroir (Girl Before a Mirror) painting, the launch comprises a Home shirt with painted-style green and white hoops representing the mirror image, and a no-doubt-welcome return to the “Bumblebee” effect in the change version - a first for adidas with Celtic.

Particular care has been taken by adidas in integrating Celtic’s unbroken-hoops first-choice look with the German supplier’s 2023 template, with panelling and trim specially coloured for consistency, but there is a break around the crest to incorporate a vertically applied hoop, which is repeated on the shorts and, encircling a simple four-leaf clover, the socks.

Also included, along with adidas’s branding and the Dafabet and Magners sponsorship logos, is Picasso’s signature from Jeune fille devant un miroir, complete with the number 32 in Roman numerals (referring to 1932, the year the artwork was produced).

Present for the Glasgow unveiling of the kits - where two of this season’s matchball-claiming hat-trick heroes, Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada, recreated Picasso’s inspirational artwork - veteran of adidas art direction Rolf Palio commented:

“We’re confident that the cultured supporters of the Celtic Football Club will embrace the direction we’ve taken their famous hoops in, as three giants of their respective worlds - adidas in sportswear, Celtic in football and Pablo Picasso in art - combine to produce two playing outfits that we hope will instil on-pitch self-belief.”

Does it count as an April fool when it's this plausible?

Yep, fell for it. But actually, what a great theme this would be. Something a bit different but still in keeping with the club's kit history. Let's have it.

I fell for it but thought more colouring in book than Picasso. I hate the badge bit mostly and the shade of green. Adidas kits have all been average at best although the current 3rd kit in full kit has really grown on me.
