Fiorentina 2023-24 Kappa Away Kit

Fiorentina 2023-24 Kappa Away Kit

The Italian Serie A side ACF Fiorentina have revealed their 2023-24-season Away shirt.

Produced by fellow Italians Kappa, the new secondary release is in white with decoration in the form of purple-outlined blossoming lilies - as a sash and on the sleeves - with the fleur-de-lis-based crest appearing in full colour and matching the neck and sleeve trim.

Partner branding - including Kappa’s “Omini” logos - appears in purple, as does the “PLAY TO BE DIFFERENT” text on the back of the neck, all on a shirt that can be combined with purple or white sets of shorts and socks to complete the kit.

Fantastic effort from Kappa. You don't really expect that from them. Fiorentina are a classy team and deserve a kit that is likewise.

It reminds me of the Stade Francais rugby kits from a few years back with intricate detailing.

Forza Inter, though!

Liking the flower sash, they could have done the details all over but I think them doing it selectively makes it stand out more.

'Kappa' means 'Tiny Willy' in Spanish. The company was synonymous with Italian football kits in the 50's and 60's. The name 'Kappa' was used as a derogatory term by Spanish fisherman to describe their Italian counterparts. When the Italian FA found this out, Kappa kits were banned with teams using Adidas, Bukta and Winfield to manufacture their outfits. Kappa went bankrupt in 1978 and Spanish fisherman were banned from using the terminology. An EU ruling in 1987 decreed that the word 'Kappa' now meant 'Galaxy Avenger' and the company was reinvented. The rest as they say, is history.

Thanks for sharing. Not many people are aware of the Kappa doctrine. I would add, it was Boutros Boutros Boutros-Ghali who founded the organization as an upstart collective to resist the Nike invasion: he feared an American obesity epidemic would league to larger shirts.

That's correct. However it didn't work and in 1998 the largest ever football shirt (XXXXXXL) was manufactured by Nike for an obese Preston North End fan. This remains the largest size for any athletic shirt.
