Reading FC 2022-23 Macron Home Kit

Reading FC have revealed their new 22/23 home strip by Macron.

What makes this jersey unique is the thick multicoloured stripes graphic on the sleeves. Designed in collaboration with the University of Reading, the shirt aims to tell the story of the changes the English city has undergone in recent years due to global warming.

The stripes go from white to light blue, then darker blue, light red and finally darker red. Each stripe represents the average temperature for a single year; on the new 'Home', they expressly represent the climate change in Reading over the 151 years, since the foundation of Reading Football Club.

The design expresses a clear message of concern that goes beyond the borders of Reading and denotes the club's sensitivity and desire to involve players, staff and even fans in this process of raising awareness.

The new 'Home' has a knitted mandarin collar to complement its classic blue and white horizontal stripe configuration. The backneck is personalised with the club's colours and crest, and on the outer backneck, there is a crown in white, one of Reading FC's symbols. On the right side of the chest, the Macron Hero features in white, while the club crest appears on the left side. "We can't do everything, but we also can't do nothing. We are not perfect, but this is the beginning of a journey.", these are the words of the English club, keen to involve its fans in this conversation through the shirt.

The home kit is completed by white shorts with blue drawstrings and side bands that echo the graphics on the sleeves and blue socks with a white upper border with two thin red horizontal stripes. The kit also features a blue shorts option with white drawstrings. The jersey has a Slim Fit, the main fabric used is Eco-Softlock, and the presence of Eco-micromesh inserts ensures the technical garment is lightweight and perfectly breathable.

Forget all the gubbins about climate change and all that, I actually like the shirt, especially the multi-coloured design on the sleeves/shoulders.

The fact Reading have ruined their kit in some **** fantasy that humans are making the planet hotter (not the fact that the Earth is still coming out of an ice age, so temperatures naturally are increasing); ½ a star is too much.

@Jimmy I actually agree with you to a certain point. But the main question is what's climate change to do with football kits!

Yeah yeah, name one climate disaster that has actually came true ever.

You can't because absolutely none of them have cane true, ever.

You're the one in fantasy land mate.

Not too sure about that I suppose it’s pretty hard to do something different with hoops given it an extra star for not having a blank space on the back

What a bunch of hippy-dippy baloney.
The contradiction in play here is seriously ******, especially that crass sponsor.
Sadly the reality is a football shirt is NOT going to make anyone re-evaluate the climate change situation. You should not highlight a very important issue such as this one by making a forgettable football shirt designed as a tool to support a marketing 'idea' that is meant to turn heads but will only succeed into nothing and be forgotten about.
IF there had been a global message from big clubs around the World, E.G. Barca, Bayern Munich Real Madrid, Man City etc wearing a limited edition shirt on one given day then perhaps that type of coverage would have worked somewhat and raised the profile.
I mean it has to start somewhere and at the very least Reading have tried to give it a shot but are they setting an example by donating 100% of shirt sale profits to a climate change charity for example? Are they leading the way in cutting back on the things that contribute to climate change?
I forgot about the shirt-average.
