Reading FC 2022-23 Macron Home Kit

Reading FC have revealed their new 22/23 home strip by Macron.

What makes this jersey unique is the thick multicoloured stripes graphic on the sleeves. Designed in collaboration with the University of Reading, the shirt aims to tell the story of the changes the English city has undergone in recent years due to global warming.

The stripes go from white to light blue, then darker blue, light red and finally darker red. Each stripe represents the average temperature for a single year; on the new 'Home', they expressly represent the climate change in Reading over the 151 years, since the foundation of Reading Football Club.

The design expresses a clear message of concern that goes beyond the borders of Reading and denotes the club's sensitivity and desire to involve players, staff and even fans in this process of raising awareness.

The new 'Home' has a knitted mandarin collar to complement its classic blue and white horizontal stripe configuration. The backneck is personalised with the club's colours and crest, and on the outer backneck, there is a crown in white, one of Reading FC's symbols. On the right side of the chest, the Macron Hero features in white, while the club crest appears on the left side. "We can't do everything, but we also can't do nothing. We are not perfect, but this is the beginning of a journey.", these are the words of the English club, keen to involve its fans in this conversation through the shirt.

The home kit is completed by white shorts with blue drawstrings and side bands that echo the graphics on the sleeves and blue socks with a white upper border with two thin red horizontal stripes. The kit also features a blue shorts option with white drawstrings. The jersey has a Slim Fit, the main fabric used is Eco-Softlock, and the presence of Eco-micromesh inserts ensures the technical garment is lightweight and perfectly breathable.

Brilliant, love it - well done Reading for highlighting climate change in such a simple illustration. I've not splashed out on a shirt for a few seasons and this is a must for me because of what it symbolises

Inventive as many of Macron kits, I love the fact that they are being adventurous in designing something like this with such special sleeve pattern.

I like what they've tried, its certainly different, and gets across a message, also gets people talking, look at the number of comments and ratings on this post.

In practice though, as others said, the sleeves on a hooped shirt just don't work, maybe would've been a lot more effective on an away or third shirt that was all white, then they would really stand out.

All-in-all, above average, as I appreciate what they have tried. Also looks a lot better close up than it does from a distance!

Absolutely terrible design for the sleeve, might have been better on a plain colour body but not a hooped top 🙈

The only fiction here is that Reading is a city, big town and that's it.

Looks like they run out of blue and white hoop material for the sleeves so rummaged around to find something but thats all they could find
