COPA China 1982 Retro Home Football Shirt

This 1982 China Home Retro shirt by COPA is made from 100% cotton.

That China came very close to qualification for the 1982 World Cup was quite a surprise for two reasons. Firstly, China had spent most of the 1960s and 1970s in sporting isolation and this was only the second time the nation had even entered a World Cup qualification campaign.

Secondly, standards were not high in part because of that isolation and in part because of a lack of focus on the sport. Some reasonable players like striker Zhao Dayu and full back Zhu Bo would emerge during the 80s, but neither played a part in those 1982 qualifiers.

Ultimately New Zealand defeated China in a play-off and travelled to Spain with Kuwait as representatives of the Asian Oceanic group. Closer to home China's 1982 Asian Cup campaign was ended at the Quarter Final stage by neighbours North Korea.
