It’s debatable how much of a practical alternative a white shirt is for a team who wear red and white stripes, but that doesn’t make this Sunderland change design any less beautiful.
Some might claim white shirts have an aesthetic advantage but the blue and red trim - with both colours used on that iconic Umbro shoulder-and-sleeve taping - surely contributed to Score Draw bringing back this creation from over 40 years ago.
The full-colour crest - a relatively new addition at the time - will have helped too, with modern fans surely convinced by the look as well.
