The League Board and the DFL accepted the bid from the manufacturer of sports equipment from Herzogenaurach, bringing the tendering process started in March to a successful conclusion.
The rights package purchased by adidas includes the provision of the official match ball, the option to produce certain licence products and advertisements on the league's platforms.
The new league partner came out on top ahead of eight companies registered for the tender in the bidding process carried out by DFL subsidiary DFL Sports Enterprises.
Financial details were not disclosed. The Bundesliga had been the only European top league without an officially licenced match ball until now.
"The Bundesliga will profit from the introduction of an official match ball in many ways. For one thing, we establish objective and uniform conditions for competition. In addition, we further sharpen the league's brand profile at home and abroad", DFL Chief Executive Officer Christian Seifert said: "The result underlines once more the attractiveness of the league and the Bundesliga brand. We're looking forward to the partnership with the world's leading football manufacturer."
"We're looking forward to our cooperation with the DFL. We will bring to it our know-how as market leader and our experience as provider of the official match ball for World Cups, European Championships, the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. The league ball provides adidas with a superb opportunity to increase its presence both in the ever-important domestic market in Germany and beyond. For the clubs of the League Association, the use of identical ball technology is now guaranteed for all Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga matches and for all important European club competitions", Chief Executive Officer of adidas AG Herbert Hainer commented.
