Borussia Dortmund sign Puma Kit Deal

dortmund pumaBorussia Dortmund have unveiled Puma as their new official kit supplier. The German sportswear manufacturer will provide BVB´s kits for the next eight years with the reigning German champions being their flagship team. The two parties agreed not to disclose any financial details of the transaction. "Money is no longer the most important thing for us," said Hans-Joachim Watzke, "what´s important now is being successful."

The new partnership, which will commence on 1 July 2012 and last at least until 30 June 2020, was announced in a grand ceremony on Wednesday. "We are back in the field of team sports, and stronger than ever before," said Matthias Bäumer, General Manager at PUMA Germany. In the hierarchy of Bundesliga teams (Stuttgart, Hoffenheim) supplied by Puma, the German champions will occupy the top spot.

"On our home market BVB were our preferred partner," emphasized Franz Koch, CEO at PUMA who look to expand their position as the number three sportswear brand. "We have five of the 20 best football players under contract," said Koch. And now also Lucas Barrios, Neven Subotic, Roman Weidenfeller, Mohamed Zidan and Patrick Owomoyela as well as coach Jürgen Klopp.

"With this long-term contract we wanted to set an example for a strategic partnership," said BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke. "We are pleased to have found a partner with such a great image."

BVB Marketing Director Carsten Cramer also pointed out that Borussia Dortmund will not follow every trend in the fast-moving fashion business. "We want to be responsive to the wishes of the fans. Which is not easy in today´s lifestyle-oriented world." The motto of the partnership, "Real Love is Yellow", is based on the club´s motto "Real Love". Puma´s General Manager Bäumer raved: "BVB are fast, young and fun!"

Puma is boring. COMPLETELY BORING. To change to Puma, it would be better to stay with Kappa.
Puma makes two different designs each year and that's all. Adidas, instead, produces many more designs and brings out great shirts, like the ones it already made for Benfica and the ones it made for Milan and Chelsea this season (the Milan shirt is simply beautiful).

I guess this explains why Kappa keeps banging out so many Dortmund kits. Trying to capitalize before their gone.

I never knew Puma was a German company. I always thought they were from Italy. And now I'm learning Puma was a company created by Adi Dassler's (of Adidas) brother Rudolph Dassler. At one time they had one company but they split and Adi formed Adidas and Rudolph formed Puma. Huh, you learn something new every day. Oh and they both were in the Nazi party.

Good news! Lookin forward to seeing the designs puma come up with for the new Dortmund kits. Could be a good blend of tradition and heritage with a club and a brand both rich in tradition # excited

Dortmunds 90's kits from Nike were great, the bright yellow with black sleeve's, must nicer than anything of late, not a fan of Puma being honest, I find the fits are all over the place.

So all 4,236 kits BVB brought out this year are about to go out of date? Some poor fans will have no clothes left!!

On a serious not though - shame on BVB for bleeding fans dry on so many kits in the last year of a deal. Terrible.

Puma are the same as everyone else regards templates, however the BIG problem for BVB is that Puma are utter rubbish is making the sizes the same. From one year to the next you never know how big or small the sizes will be. Even in the same template they get it wrong. Spurs shirts last year, the Home XL was massive, the Away XL was actually an XL and the 3rd XL was a tent. Adidas may be a bit dull but at least an L is an L every year (42-44inch or 60cms) and an XL is an XL (44-46inch or 63cm) every single year without fail. Puma suck.

@dvd, adidas is probably the most boring kit make. The direct opposite to puma.

Adidas just has one or two different designs and the get different colours for each team ... in terms of design and creativity, they are like the Porsche 911 of sportswear!

Puma on the other hand has had great and innovative designs and ideas (e.g. the sleeveless and the single pieced cameroon kit, both declined by the ignorant and corrupt FIFA ,,,)

Dortmund has made a really good choice by signing Puma.
