Morecambe announce MoPay shirt sponsor deal 08-09

MORECAMBE Football Club have announced new shirt sponsors for the 2008/09 season.

MORECAMBE'S players and fans will have a new name on their shirts next season after the club agreed another record sponsorship deal. Lancaster-based company mopay.co.uk will have their name on the shirts, which will be unveiled next month after agreeing a one-year deal, with the option of another two years.

The company, who replace Jiang Print, employ 40 people in CityLab in Da. Craig Smith is operations director at ShP solutions, of which mopay is a part, and he expressed his excitement at the deal, the biggest the company have ever done. He said: "I have always kept an eye on Morecambe and now I am looking forward to getting more involved next season. For us it is not just about writing a cheque, it is about getting involved as much as possible."

Craig has lived in Morecambe since the age of four and will be foregoing his season ticket at Manchester City from next season in favour of the Shrimps.

mopay.co.uk already have an advertising board at Christie Park and an advert in the club programme. This was a great opportunity for the company, said marketing manager Chris Rogerson.

"This season has been fantastic and hopefully next year will be even better," he said. He revealed that the company would work with the Shrimps to generate funds, both for charity and for the club's Football in the Community work. mopay.co.uk has been in operation since 2005 and is a major player in the mobile phone recycling market. Their website was the first of its kind in the world.

Stephen Wright, a club director but also from Wright and Lord Solicitors, the shirt sponsors before current sponsors Jiang Print, helped set up the deal.

"I knew Craig and his business and I was able to tell him what a great success the shirt sponsorship was for us.

"Morecambe Football Club is well run, well thought of, has good people behind it and 12 months ago, it probably gave 10-12,000 people in Morecambe the best day out they ever had.

"Being associated with that can only be good for your business."
Chief executive Rod Taylor stressed the co-operation between club and sponsor.

"We would love the deal to be extended and it is up to us to work together," he said.
