1964 Belgium Match Worn Home Shirt

Belgium 1964 player shirt believed to have been match worn by Cornelis in the friendly match against England played at Wembley Stadium on the 21st October 1964.

Despite facing up against a talented England team which included the likes of Bobby Moore, Jimmy Greaves and George Cohen (as well as future England manager Terry Venables) the Red Devils came out with an impressive 2-2 draw after goals from Cornelis himself and all-time great Paul Van Himst cancelled out Pickering and Hinton England strikes.

Indeed Belgium had somewhat of a reputation for giant-killing in this period after also seeing off World Cup holders Brazil in 1963. Cornelis' goal was to be his only strike in an International career which spanned 19 caps between 1962 and 1969. He spent the majority of his career with domestic giants Anderlecht between 1958 and 1971, lifting 7 league titles before retiring with Crossing Schaerbeek in 1973.
