Ritchie made his debut for the club aged just 17 and really established himself as useful first team player in 78-79 making 21 appearances scoring a highly impressive 10 goals including a hat-trick against Leeds. The youngster found it harder in 79-80 though managing only 11 appearances and 3 goals but it came as a surprise when he was sold to Brighton in '80. One match in which Ritchie came off the bench wearing #12 when this design was used was the famous 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup Semi Final replay at Goodison Park in '79. The forward later went on to become a club stalwart at Oldham Athletic spending 10 years at Boundary Park.
