Thijssen moved to Portman Road in the summer of '79 to link up with former FC Twente team-mate Arnold Mühren. The Dutch duo were a sensation and helped the side to a 3rd place finish in 79-80 which ensured qualification for the UEFA Cup.
Bobby Robson's legendary team went on to win that competition and secure their place in the Tractor Boys history forever. Thijssen's sublime form as the side challenged for the league title also saw him crowned the English Footballer of the Year in '81. Ipswich wore this iconic Adidas kit which references their 1978 FA Cup triumph from '78 until '81. Thijssen stayed on until '83 and also went to Euro '80 with Holland winning 14 caps for Oranje.
