The skipper Sumner got his team back in it though after the break and striker Steve Woodin also found the net shortly after as the side mounted a comeback. The Scots showed their experience though and saw off the hard-fought efforts of the newcomers with goals from Robertson and Archibald to seal a 5-2 victory. It did not get any easier for New Zealand, next up was the Soviet Union and then Brazil and they were brushed aside by these giants of world football. Sumner did not miss a minute of action at the Finals and the side wore this classic white Adidas strip in every match. The West Adelaide SC midfielder made 55 appearances and scored 22 goals for his country between 1976-88 and will be forever remembered as the first player from Oceania to score at a World Cup.
