Adidas 1988 Holland Match Worn Away Shirt

Holland 1988 player shirt by Adidas believed to have been match worn by van Loen in the friendly match against Italy played at Stadio Olimpico, Rome on the 16th November 1988.

When the question is asked what was the Holland away shirt for Euro 88 we believe that this design shirt is the answer. It shares the same superb design with the octagonal pattern in the material as was worn by the Soviet Union at the Finals on their away kit.

Anyway, back to this match, van Loen had made his KNVB debut back in '85 aged just 20, this was his first senior appearance since then after spending time back with the U-21 team and he came on as a 62nd minute substitute. The newly crowned European champions were unable to break down this resolute Azzurri outfit with Maldini, Baresi and Bergomi at the back and lost out 1-0 to a 44th minute Gianluca Vialli goal. This design had another outing in Israel in January '89 while van Loen's form would go on to earn the big centre forward a place in the squad for the 1990 World Cup.
