Soviet Union 1988 player shirt by Adidas believed to have been issued to Sukristov for the 1988 European Championship Group B match against the Republic of Ireland played at Niedersachsenstadion, Hanover on the 15th June '88.
Ireland had pulled off a famous shock victory in their opening match while the Soviet Union had beaten the Dutch 1-0 so both were full of confidence and could all but secure qualification to the Semi Finals with a positive result here.
It was first blood to the Irish who took a half-time lead through Ronnie Whelan but Protasov struck in the 74th minute and finished honours even in a 1-1 draw. Valeriy Lobanovskiy's men wore this superb Adidas design with an octagonal pattern within the material in all of their games except for against England even though it was official their away strip. Sukristov was an unused substitute for all of the nation's matches at the tournament, the defender represented the USSR 4 times and later went on to play for his native Lithuania.
