A 1-1 draw with Ireland and a convincing 3-1 defeat of England put the USSR into the Semi Finals as group winners ahead of the much fancied Dutch. There Italy were seemlessly dispatched to set up a repeat of this game in the Final itself, a mouthwatering prospect. Unfortunately Holland got their revenge with van Basten scoring one of the greatest goals of all-time. Valeriy Lobanovskiy's men wore this superb Adidas design with an octagonal pattern within the material in all of their games except for against England even though it was official their away strip. Kuznetsov went on to play for Glasgow Rangers and represented the USSR 58 times, also playing at the 86 and 90 World Cup and Euro 92 for the CIS.
