The Ajax starlet joined the action as a 78th minute substitute for John van't Schip as Holland cruised to a 3-0 victory. This was only the 20 year old Witschge's second appearance for the Oranje after making his senior debut the previous month in a 2-1 win in Wales. The stylish midfielder's performances earned him a place in the squad at the World Cup Finals come the summer of 1990. This new Adidas kit for the KNVB was only worn in two matches to this specification, here and in the friendly against Brazil in December. The design was altered in the new year with the logos and number screen printed. Witschge went on to make 31 appearances for Holland and also starred for Johan Cruyff's Barcelona 'Dream Team'.
