Wim Kieft had given the Dutch the lead in the 58th minute but the Egpytians levelled after Abdelghani scored a late penalty. Both teams wore their away kits in the match, the first time the Oranje had worn an away shirt at a major tournament since 1980 and it would be the only time this stylish white Adidas design would feature in Italy. Witschge started the remaining group games against England and Ireland which also ended in draws and the Round of 16 defeat to West Germany that involved the infamous red card's for Voller and Rijkaard. The midfielder's performances would earn him a move to join Johan Cryuff's Barcelona 'Dream Team' in '91 and he went on to make 31 appearances for Holland.
