The only time Whelan played as the #12 in this Adidas Equipment shirt was home and away to Lithuania in the successful USA '94 qualifying campaign.
The veteran came on for Aldridge in June in a 1-0 win in Vilnius and as a substitute for Townsend when Lithuania were dispatched 2-0 in Dublin in September. Whelan was nearing the end of his long and successful career but was included in the squad for the World Cup which was his third major international tournament before hanging up his Ireland boots in '95 after 53 caps.
