Romania 1994 player shirt by Adidas believed to have been issued to Moldovan for the 1994 World Cup Group A match against USA played at the Rose Bowl, Pasadena on the 26th June '94.
This was the final round of group matches and there was still everything to play for with neither side boasting a perfect record so far.
Romania had eased past Colombia 3-1 but suffered a shock 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Switzerland in their next game. Hagi and co were out to prove themselves up against the hosts here in California and did just that securing a 1-0 victory thanks to an early Dan Petrescu goal that sealed their safe passage to the Round of 16 as group winners. Moldovan was an unused substitute for this and all of the nation's matches at the Final's. The match was a beautiful sight with both teams wearing iconic Adidas kits and the fact that USA still went through meant there was no bad feeling. Romania went on to be one of the surprise packages of a great tournament, famously beating '86 winners Argentina in the next round before losing a memorable penalty shoot-out to Sweden in the Quarter Finals. Moldovan had made his debut in '93 and was only 22 at the time, by the next World Cup he had established himself as Romania's top striker after starring at Euro '96 also and went on to win 70 caps scoring 25 goals.
