Anderson had made history in 1978 when he became the first black player for play for England in a full international match and became a regular for The Three Lions until 1988, making 30 appearances and representing England in two World Cups and two European Championships.

The defender came through Forest's youth ranks and made his debut with the first team in 1974 being part of the foundations at the club for the best part of a decade before he was sold to Arsenal in 1984. Anderson also went on to play four seasons at Old Trafford, delighted two seasons Sheffield Wednesday fans and had a couple of brief spells at Barnsley and Middlesbrough before his retirement in '95.
