Greece 1980 player shirt by Asics believed to have been match worn by Kostikos in the 1980 European Championship Group 1 match against Holland played at Stadio San Paolo, Naples on the 11th June '80.
This was Greece's first ever match at a major international tournament.
The Ethniki came so close to holding '74 & '78 World Cup runners-up to a drew here until a moment of madness from goalkeeper Konstantinou in giving away an unnecessary penalty which Kees Kist converted in the 65th minute. The underdogs impressed for long periods of the game but sadly came away empty handed. Kostikos started the match and played for 78 minutes, the striker made 35 appearances in his international career. Greece wore this superb Chape soccerwear production for Japanese manufacturer Asics which was a real revolutionary design, it featured against Czechoslovakia also with the blue away version being worn aganst West Germany. 24 years later Greece would famously win the trophy wearing white and their history in the competition started here.
