The Italian champions defeated Rosenborg and Honved to reach this stage of the competition and had beaten the holders Red Star Belgrade but drawn with Panathinaikos in their group matches prior to this double-header with Anderlecht. The group winner went through to the Final and the Belgian's dented Samp's hopes in Brussels with a dramatic win in a 3-2 thriller. Lombardo and Mancini put I Blucerchiati's campaign back on track though with a 2-0 victory in Genoa and they held their nerve in the remaining games to progress through to play Barcelona at Wembley.

Sadly their dream of becoming European champions was wrecked by Ronald Koeman in extra-time. Bonetti played the full 90 minutes of both of the Anderlecht ties wearing #11 and was a regular throughout his three year stay with the club. The winger later starred over in the UK with Grimsby Town and Dundee. This famous Sampdoria shirt is the only one in the club's history to feature the Scudetto shield.

Correct player size number printed within the material, Scudetto shield is machine stitched and Asics logo is embroidered where on the replica version they are screen printed, swapped with an Anderlecht player and comes from their own personal collection - a signed letter verifying this will be provided.
