Blues fans of the day will remember that in 1991 a special commemorative shirt was launched to celebrate the club's appearance in the Leyland Daf Cup final v Tranmere Rovers at Wembley.
Although the new commemorative design wasn't worn for the final itself due to contractual reasons with the incumbent kit supplier, the new shirt was introduced as match-wear for the following season 1991/92.
The shirt for auction here is an original UNWORN MATCH shirt from the 1991/92 season complete with Football League embroidery on the right sleeve which identifies it as a PLAYERS' MATCH SHIRT. The replica versions sold in the Blues club shop did not carry the official league crest. On the other sleeve is an embroidered image of the Leyland Daf Cup and the wording CUP FINAL WEMBLEY 1991. The Influence logo and Birmingham City crest are also embroidered.
This shirt has been signed by TWELVE of the famous Leyland Daf Cup final squad including: skipper Vince Overson, Ian Clarkson, Trevor Matthewson, John Frain, Ian Rodgerson, John Gayle (scorer of two sensational goals, including a spectacular overhead kick), 'keeper Martin Thomas, Dennis Bailey, Dean Peer, Paul Tait, phsyio Peter Henderson and assistant manager Chic Bates.
