Kappa 1997 South Africa Match Issue Home Shirt

South Africa 1997 player shirt by Kappa believed to have been issued for the 1997 Nelson Mandela Challenge friendly match against Germany played at Rheinstadion, Dusseldorf on the 15th November '97.

The Bafana Bafana had won their first ever major international trophy in '96 famously lifting the Africa Cup of Nations on home soil and wearing this superb Kappa design kit they went on to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 1998.

The side were outclassed by the reigning European champions here though who cruised to a 3-0 victory with goals from Hamann, Bierhoff and Heinrich. At this time South Africa stuck to a squad list for matchday numbers that would be the same as the one they would go by at the 1998 World Cup. If present a player would always wear the same number with the #7 usually being Quinton Fortune who was an unused substitute in this game.
