Real Madrid 1995-96 player shirt by Kelme believed to have been match worn by Hierro in the 1995-96 Champions League Group D match against Ajax played at the Olympic Stadium on the 13th September 1995.
Real were narrowly beaten 1-0 by the reigning European champions who found the net early on through pacey winger Marc Overmars.
Los Blancos managed to recover to make it through the group stage and progress to the Quarter Finals as runners-up to Ajax though they would lose out to eventual winners Juventus at this round. Hierro played the full match at the club alongside captain Manuel Sanchís. The connsumate defender would take over the armband later in his glorious Los Blancos career which spanned for 14 seasons winning 5 La Liga titles and 3 Champions League crowns. Hierro was one of the best players in the world in his position and was named in the FIFA XI three years running 1996-98 and won UEFA Defender of the Year for 97-98 while also representing Spain at six major tournaments, captaining the team at two of those.
