The precocious youngster Lee Dong-Gook came on as a substitute in the 77th minute to make his tournament debut. The striker had only played for The Reds for the first time in 1998 and would go on to one of their star men for years to come making 103 appearances scoring 33 goals before retiring in 2014, also playing in the Premier League with Middlesbrough. Korea lost all of their group games at France 98 and this was the only match they played in this blue shirt.
