Čestmír Vycpálek's men had defended their Scudetto title but had enjoyed a relatively comfortable run to the Final beating Marseille, Magdeburg, Újpesti Dózsa and Derby County en route. Longobucco started the match at right back and the Bianconeri were soon on the back foot after Johnny Rep gave Ajax, captained by the great Johan Cruyff, the lead after just 5 minutes. Bettega, Altafini, Anastasi and Capello gave it their all in search of an equaliser but it was not to be, the game finished 1-0 and the third consecutive triumph meant that Ajax got to get keep the trophy. Juve would eventually get their revenge in 1996 though. Longobucco spent 4 years at the Delle Alpi and won three Serie A titles before moving to Cagliari. The club's shirts were produced by local manufacturer Romano until 1978 when another Turin kit maker Kappa took over.
