The match proved to be one to remember for all time for Wales and one to forget for Brazil. Brazil had won five and drawn one of their previous meetings with Wales but here they were shocked by Terry Yorath's men who grabbed a famous win thanks to a second half goal by Dean Saunders.

Cléber only had three caps to his name prior to this match but played the full game for Brazil who were led by Careca and also boasted Bebeto, Cafu and Mauro Silva in their starting line-up. The defender would go on to win two Serie A and one Copa Libertadores titles with Palmeiras and featured 13 times in total for the Seleção. This was the last ever time that Brazil would wear shirts made by Topper, the Brazilian manufacturer had produced the shirts for three World Cup's '82, '86 and '90 but Umbro took over for the next match which was against Yugoslavia in October '91.
