After Scotland's elimination the shirt was handed to a fellow squad member from whom it has been obtained. Under boss Alex Ferguson the side suffered narrow defeats to Denmark and West Germany before a fiercely contested 0-0 draw with Uruguay in the heat of Nezahualcóyotl. These special airtex shirts were produced by Umbro for the team in an effort to combat the sweltering conditions and they were never released on commercial sale, while not even an embroidered 'World Cup' replica version of the away shirt was available to the public.
