Scotland 1987 player shirt by Umbro believed to have been match worn by Strachan in the Euro 88 Qualification Group 7 match against Ireland played at Hampden Park, Glasgow on the 18th February 1987.
Both sides fancied their chances of a place at Euro 88 and the match in Dublin between the two had ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
Scotland went into the game having not conceded a goal in their first three group matches but that run ended here after only 8 minutes with Mark Lawrenson putting the visitors ahead early on. And that was unfortunately what the scoreline remained right through until full-time. Andy Roxburgh's men just could not find an equaliser. Strachan played the full match in the midfield but the problem would prove to be upfront in this campaign as the side finished in 4th place in the end with only 7 goals scored in 8 matches. The Old Trafford hero had starred at the 1982 and 1986 World Cup's and won a total of 50 caps for the Tartan Army, he would later become the national team manager in 2013.
