This Scotland shirt, issued to striker Kevin Gallacher at the 1992 European Championship in Sweden, represents a hopeful time in the British nation’s football history.
With only eight teams making it to the continental tournament three decades ago, the Scottish had highly achieved just by qualifying, and this design - heavily laden with decoration referencing their football association (the SFA) - was sported in their three games.
Names newly appeared on the backs of the shirts, as did numbers on the front, and the embroidery, as on this example, included the crest, “EURO 92” detail and - as opposed to earlier examples, with now-uppercase wording - the Umbro logo.
