Selling at auction for £3,800, this Luton Town shirt belonging to Allan Brown - complete with the former Scotland international’s 8 on the reverse - is an example of a much simpler time in both football and football design.
Aside from the functional embellishment on the reverse, the only detail is the, by modern standards, oversized crest on the chest, with a simple deep V-style neck and short sleeves perhaps suiting conditions on a traditionally warm FA Cup Final day.
Luton were on the wrong side of the result in 1959, being beaten by Nottingham Forest, but this relic from that occasion has value belying its simplicity and aged condition.
