Featuring very late in legendary Manchester United and France player Eric Cantona’s career, this Home shirt of the Old Trafford club recently changed hands at auction.
Featuring Cantona’s signature long sleeves (but sadly not presented with the collar turned up), the player specification example of an iconic Umbro release sold for £11,000.
With fully embroidered crest, Uefa Starball patch and personalisation of the superstar forward on the reverse, it’s not altogether surprising that the lot blasted through the £5000-7000 estimate, especially considering Cantona carried the shirt in his final Champions League appearance before his 1997 retirement.
Borussia Dortmund won that semi-final - and would go on to defeat Juventus in the final - but King Eric’s reputation resonates in the North West of England and the look of this pricey item evokes his famous talent and temperament.
