The 1970 World Cup in Mexico was a complicated tournament for then-trophy-holders England, but the shirts were certainly a highlight.
Very 1966-y in styling, the warm-weather-orientated examples were infused with Airtex - not Aertex - technology, and that perforated look is evident on hero-of-the-previous-tournament Nobby Stiles’s Home example here.
The gorgeous crest, original neck label and Stiles’s red 15 on the reverse are all present and correct, making it not too much of a surprise that this article sold for £5,000 - a couple of thousand over the estimate - when it went to auction.
