Recently selling for £1200 at auction, this Umbro Northern Ireland goalkeeper shirt holds value due to its association with one of the greatest custodians of all time.

Pat Jennings’ career was spent almost entirely with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal - North London Forever indeed - but he also became a legend in international football, amassing 119 caps through appearances spanning three separate decades.

Due to the eras in which he played, the British Home Championship was very much a staple of Jennings’ footballing diet, and this shirt is listed as being connected with the 1975-76 instalment. Jennings wore a white digit on his back against Scotland and England, rather than the black number 1 here, but this shirt holds huge interest via its design - the neat Umbro logo, embroidered crest and hefty collar - and the £1400-1600 estimate was therefore unsurprising.

This item was sold by Graham Budd Auctions, a specialist in sporting memorabilia.

No wild pattern, no overdone logos no insane mix of colours.
It presents itself as it should be and that is awesome.
A shirt of identity and not status.
