Pink Everton 07/08 Umbro charity football shirt

I thought I'd fill you all in on a little bit of the background to the pink Everton shirts that have been spotted in photographs recently.

The idea originally came from the Club's Head of Public Relations Ian Ross. The aim was to help support the Breast Cancer awareness charity following several members of staff who had been diagnosed, and subsequently successfully come through their treatment.

It's our way of saying thank you via association with the worthy cause and to raise money through e-auction and various prize draws and competitions.

So we made 50 shirts for promotional purposes, and contacted the charity to offer our support. They were amazed that a Premier League club had offered them help; the phrase "we always have to ask first" springs to mind from when I was speaking with a lady called Sarah Davis from the Breast Cancer Campaign.

Ladies Day was then arranged for last Sunday, which starts the month long national awareness campaign.

Amanda Holden was photographed in one of the pink shirts to help promote Ladies Day and our support for the charity, whereby £1 from each match ticket sold would go to the Breast Cancer Campaign, and once the shirt was seen, hundreds of enquiries started coming in from supporters who wanted to buy them!

We hadn't originally intended to sell them, as there are Premier League rules surrounding production and sales of replica kit, and we already have three kits on sale this season.

However, we now have permission from the Premier League to go ahead due to the huge interest we have received and shirts will be available to buy in the New Year.

A contribution from the sale of each shirt will go direct to the charity, and we thank JJB, Umbro and the Premier League for their support in getting these shirts manufactured and helping us to continue our support for Breast Cancer Campaign.

The limited edition pink Ladies Day shirt is now available on eAuction.

Celebrities such as Amanda Holden, Claire Sweeney and Giulia Bould have all publicly sported the shirt, which was produced to promote breast cancer awareness.

Many other new items have also been added to Everton's official online auction site.

There is a selection of around 40 items for fans to bid on, ranging from shirts and boots, to DVDs and photos, all of which are signed by first team players.

You could grab yourself a bargain on some other fantastic items which have surprisingly not yet received any bids, which includes Andrew Johnson's training shorts and Alan Stubbs' match worn boots.

All items are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and many of which are fantastic, unique items to add to your collection.

For the fans that prefer more classic Everton items, we are offering a set of Bob Latchford photographs. This is a collection of four separate signed photographs of the player.
