update: Leaked on 12/2

It's been a while since our last England shirt update, but the biggest news is that the new England shirt is expected to retail at around £50.

The marketing campaign will soon kick in, and its aim to point out that the new shirt is a top quality product and superior to the current model which can now be bought for a few quid in most online and discount stores.

It’s understood that the England squad have already seen the new shirt and have been pictured in them too. However, they have been instructed not to leak any details of its appearance to friends, family and in particular, the media.

However we can be certain of one feature of the shirt – it’s been agreed that the nike swoosh will not replace the existing Umbro logo.

The England shirts will be available on pre-order during March and purchasers should receive them on 1st April, the day England are at home to Ukraine in a 2010 World Cup qualifier.

The RRP has gone up by £10 to £50.

England fan John Jackson, 57, from Salford, raged: "It’s a con.

"How can they justify whacking the price up by a quarter when everyone’s feeling the pinch?"

A spokesman for Umbro said the recommended retail price was £50.

But he added: "It will be up to individual retailers how much they sell it at."

An FA spokesman said: "We have a long-term relationship with Umbro. But when it comes to any RRP we have absolutely no control. It’s just not down to us."
