Borussia Dortmund 1995-96 player shirt by Nike believed to have been match worn by Júlio César in the Champions League Quarter Final 2nd leg match against Ajax played at the Olympic Stadium, Amsterdam on the 20th March 1995.
The German champions in their first appearance in the competition since 1963-64 had suffered a 2-0 defeat to the reigning kings of Europe in the 1st leg.
Júlio César started the match at centre back alongside Jürgen Kohler as BVB went desperately looking for goals but unfortunately it was not to be and a late Kiki Musampa effort sealed their fate and confirmed the Dutch giants safe passage through to the Semi Finals. It would prove to be a useful education for Ottmar Hitzfeld's men though and a year later they would shock Europe to go on and win the competition themselves for the first time. Júlio César was an unsung hero in this great and iconic Dortmund side of this era, keeping things tight at the back while the likes of Sammer, Kohler, Möller and Ricken pulled the strings. The former Juventus star surprisingly only represented Brazil 13 times and spent 5 years at the Westfalenstadion. Dortmund wore the Champions League starball incorrectly on the left sleeves of their famous fluorescent shirts in this season.
